The Green Monster: Rimac e-M3 previews Frankfurt concept

The 800km e-miglia rally has kicked off, this year running between Munich and St Moritz via the highest altitudes of the Alps. And this green BMW is the most powerful car taking part: Rimac Automobili’s ‘Green Monster’, the e-M3. The company, from Sveta Nedelja, Croatia, has more than just a quick retro-fit conversion to show off, however: the e-M3 is “a test mule for battery technologies, battery management, propulsion systems and latest in-house developments”, it says. The reason for this R&D work? A project called Concept_1, to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Details of Concept_1 so far are scarce but notable: Rimac’s claiming a rather incredible 1088bhp and 2802lb ft of torque, 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of nearly 190mph. How? The powertrain will feature four sub-systems, each with a motor, inverter and reduction gearbox, for each independently-driven wheel; it’s all holistically controlled using all-wheel torque vectoring. Press release – and video of the e-M3 in action – posted at Autoblog Green; until Frankfurt, file the Concept_1 under ‘believe it when you see it’. Green Monster’s got plenty of go, though.
