Design concept of the Day: Audi Trimaran

June 13, 2011 § Leave a comment

It’s a new sort of hybrid: a diesel-driven motorboat with a pair of electric jetskis which are stored within the outrigger hulls in a trimaran structure. The jetskis’ motors can power the whole structure at low speeds of up to about 8 knots, for moving around a harbour, for example, as well as assist the pair of diesel engines during acceleration; the engines in turn act as generators to recharge the jetskis. Designed in Audi’s Munich studio by Stefanie Behringer of Pforzheim Technical College, this smart boat can take up to 12 on-deck and sleep up six, with the jetskis on tap for local exploration. Full gallery and more at Car Body Design (even if this is a boat).
