Mean Green truck goes for speed record

November 4, 2010 § 1 Comment

Volvo Truck engineers are aiming to beat a standing-kilometre speed record with a hybrid prototype called Mean Green. The diesel-electric lorry has a twin-turbo 16-litre engine delivering 1900bhp, plus an automated-manual gearbox and an electric motor adding an extra 200bhp; it runs on liquid-rosin biodiesel fuel. Truck racer Boije Ovebrink plans to test the truck later this month and then aims to top the 166.7kph average next spring.
