September 9, 2010 § Leave a comment

Hyundai has launched South Korea’s first electric car. The BlueOn – based on the i10 city car – was demonstrated yesterday to president Lee Myung-bak and ministers, and a test fleet of 30 is to be delivered to governmental bodies. The fleet will be studied in a programme to create a recharging infrastructure in Korea.

The BlueOn can do 130kph, accelerate 0-100kph in 13.1 seconds, and go 140km between recharges; it features a ‘virtual engine sound system’ to warn pedestrians of its presence. Production of 2500 is planned for 2012, when full production starts.
