Lightweight EVs are Epic

The co-founder of Aptera, Chris Anthony, has formed a second company to sell a pair of affordable electric sports vehicles. Styled in California and to be built in Louisiana by Caddo Engineering, the Epic EV Amp and the Torq are two-seat three-wheelers; the Amp is an ATV (all-terrain vehicle, or off-road buggy) and the Torq (pictured) an open speedster. Both look far more fun and much more promising than the Peel three-wheeler (see below).

The Torq gets lithium-ion batteries and a motor delivering 200bhp-plus; the 550kg Amp has 40kW, a 60-mile range and a top speed of just 80kph, though with its switchable 2/4WD and full rollover cage, it’s more about off-roading. No details yet on pricing, or whether these vehicles will be exported to Europe; more at the Epic website , which also showcases the company’s electric speedboats.
