Reborn Spanish brand plans sports EV and hybrid

A reborn Spanish brand intends to take on Tesla. Izaro Motors of Madrid – barely more than stillborn in in its attempts to build lightweight small cars – has been revived by the founder’s great-grandson. Gregorio Pena has drawn up a plan for a high-performance sportster, to be offered with hybrid or all-electric powertrains (416bhp and 495bhp respectively) and to sell from E60,000-plus. The car’s claimed to have a lightweight chassis made from magnesium, steel and balsalt fibre, and 0-60 acceleration in under four seconds; target range for the EV is 150 miles, and 430 miles for the hybrid. Scepticism so far out there as to whether Pena will be any more successful in bringing his car to market than his great-grandad in the 1920s, but you never know.
