VW confirms Lupo revival

Volkswagen is to revive the Lupo name for its next city car, reports Autocar. As expected, the new Lupo – which will replace the poor-selling Fox – will be developed from the Up! concept car, though sadly, the original rear-engined, kooky-looking concept has inevitably morphed into a rather conventional front-engined, front-drive economy car.
The Lupo will be built in Slovakia, and Audi, Seat and Skoda versions will follow. UK sales of the three-door will start in 2012, and it’ll be priced from around £8000 to compete against the likes of the Peugeot 107, Toyota Aygo and suchlike.
Engines on offer will start with a 65bhp three-cylinder, 1.0-litre petrol unit, and a 75bhp 1.2, plus a 75bhp 1.2 diesel delivering over 80mpg and emitting less than 80g/km of carbon dioxide in Bluemotion versions. Five-door versions will follow, plus an 85bhp turbocharged, direct-injection four-cylinder 1-litre engine; further into the future, an electric version (as indicated by the e-Up! concept) is under development.
