Eco-Rally #1

July 7, 2010 § Leave a comment

A cold, grey start to the 2010  Bridgestone Brighton-London Eco Rally: this is how Madeira Drive looked before the celebs and the professional cameras arrived. The first of three Tesla Roadsters manoeuvres into position alongside an electric Ginetta race car.

Now in its fourth year, the Eco Rally is intended to showcase the latest in environmentally-friendly automotive technology. Participants ranged from the Teslas and the Ginetta to  a less exotic Focus Econetic, the super-economical Suzuki Alto and an elderly aftermarket Citroen Berlingo Electrique, the latter representing the Battery Vehicle Society (400 members, established in 1975: who knew?). Shame the Gordon Murray T.25 didn’t make it, nor the Riversimple hydrogen car, though the absence of a G-Wiz was probably a good thing for all concerned: this was meant to be a positive consciousness-raising exercise.
