Tesla plans a van

June 23, 2010 § Leave a comment

Californian EV-maker Tesla, a company whose public profile is rather larger than its production output thus far, is planning a van. And a crossover, and a new convertible, all based on the forthcoming Model S saloon’s underpinnings and with the same powertrain.

This news comes as Tesla prepares to go public and offer up its stock on the NASDAQ exchange next week; Toyota has recently invested $50million in the firm, a move which will help both parties develop a new small electric vehicle, and Tesla is now looking to raise some more cash to put the Model S (pictured) into production in 2012. It intends to build the car at the mothballed Toyota facility in Fremont, California.
