Electric gull-winged Merc: first pictures

Good Lord. It’s very fast, very expensive, very electric and it’s got gull-wing doors: what more could you want, apart from the wherewithal to buy one and the lifestyle to match? First pictures have emerged of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell, set to join its petrol-powered counterpart on sale in 2013.
In place of a 6.2-litre V8, it gets a motor at each wheel and a lithium-ion battery pack to produce a combined 526bhp and 649lb ft of torque; it’ll do 0-60 in less than four seconds, apparently. No word on range between recharges as yet. Other modifications include a multilink front suspension instead of double wishbones, ceramic composite brakes with energy capture function, and minor tweaks to the aerodynamics, air intakes, and LED headlights.
External changes include the addition of an extendable front apron and splitter, a wider grille, revised air intakes in the hood, LED headlamps, plus a luminescent yellow paint scheme with matte-black accents. More pictures and a video at Edmunds Inside Line.
