Geneva Motor Show: Infiniti M35 Hybrid

March 2, 2010 § Leave a comment

More news on the Infiniti M35 Hybrid – it’s on show in Geneva. Sales start spring 2011; it has a 68bhp electric motor built into its seven-speed automatic gearbox and a 3.5 V6 engine which decouples to allow for an electric-only mode. It’s claimed to have a longer range, and to be capable of electric-only running at higher speeds, than other hybrids, thanks to an “exceptionally fast charge/discharge response” from its lithium-ion batteries.

This hybrid system was previewed in last year’s Essence concept, and is called Infiniti Direct Response; in a ‘real life’ testing programme in a variety of traffic conditions and terrains, it remained in electric-only mode for around 50% of the time.

Like the conventional M-line models also launched in Geneva, the M35 Hybrid is a spacious, well-equipped five-seater luxury saloon; Infiniti promises both “incisive handling” and “exceptional ride comfort.” Equipment on offer will include a new blind spot intervention system with automatic emergency steering, a “forest air” climate control system and active noise control.
