Chinese battery-maker turned carmaker BYD is to launch its e6 electric crossover in Europe next year, reports Reuters. The ambitious company – which has stated an aim of becoming the world’s largest carmaker by 2025 – is planning to start exports to the US later this year, with the first dealerships in California.
BYD is currently supplying EVs to Chinese government agencies, and has been trialling a number as taxis in the southern Chinese city of Shenzen. The e6 will sell in the US from around $42,000, and is now to go through the safety certification process. It delivers 268bhp and 406lb ft via its pair of electric motors, and is said to do 0-62mph in less than 14 seconds; top speed is about 140kph and a 400km range is claimed.
