Polo Bluemotion gets greener

February 18, 2010 § Leave a comment

Back in the ’80s – during the last big recession – Volkswagen offered a Polo ‘Formel E’  with long-geared transmission and fuel-saving modifications,  deathly slow and thoroughly unpleasant to drive. That model’s current-day counterpart looks altogether more appealing: the new-generation Polo Bluemotion, with a three-cylinder, 75PS/133lb ft  1.2-litre diesel engine, will do a respectable 107mph and 0-62mph in 13.9 seconds. Oh, and it’ll return 80.7mpg and emit just 91g/km of carbon dioxide, aided by a stop-start system,  regenerative braking and aerodynamic enhancements.

No need to forgo luxuries such as air conditioning, either, though this economy special doesn’t come cheap: prices start from £14,445 (three-door) and £15,045 (five-door),  for May deliveries.
