It’s the replacement for the 607, effectively – but the next big Peugeot saloon will come with a diesel hybrid powertrain. The 5 by Peugeot concept car uses the Hybrid4 technology (to be first offered from next year in the 3008 MPV), combining a 163bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine with particulate filter and a rear-mounted 37bhp electric motor. Total output is 200bhp, with four-wheel drive, overall carbon dioxide emissions amount to 99g/km, and it has a short low-speed range in electric-only mode. Average fuel consumption is 74.3mpg.
