Here’s a hint at the next-generation Smart Fortwo, coming next year; the all-electric Forvision, developed in partnership with chemical co BASF, suggests that the styling and basic concept will remain true to the original, despite an all-new rear-wheel drive platform. Clever details of this Frankfurt Motor Show car include roof-mounted organic solar cells (collecting enough energy to power the car’s multimedia and climate control systems), lightweight plastic wheels, and heat-conducting seat fabrics and insulating foam within the body panels to keep the cabin cool in summer and warm in winter, thus saving more energy. Some of these features may well make it into the production Fortwo, says Autocar.
