Porsche: production green light for 918 Spyder, Boxster EV
July 26, 2010 § 1 Comment
Porsche is giving the production go-ahead to the 918 Spyder plug-in hybrid, reports Bloomberg. The Spyder, an open two-seater, was shown in concept form at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. It has a 500bhp petrol V8 – driving the rear wheels – plus three electric motors to deliver nearly 220bhp to the front wheels; it’ll do 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds and has achieved a top speed of 198mph, yet will return 78mpg (combined) and do 25km in its all-electric mode. Over 2000 potential buyers have expressed an interest, says Porsche, even given the estimated E500,000 price tag.
Porsche has also confirmed that it is working on an all-electric sports car: three Boxster EV prototypes are being built, reports Autocar, with field tests to start next year.
Thanks for the post.
Serious piece of kit! Look forward to seeing it on the roads.
